In Tibet and the Himalayan region, incense preparation is very ancient and profound, and requires extensive knowledge of plants, flowers, and woods. Sadly, as is happening everywhere in the world, the raw materials are harder to find now, and the knowledge to handle them is also on the decline. Combined with a rise of counterfeits, cheap or substituted ingredients, and questionable practices, much of what is now sold as "Tibetan incense" is unreliable.
