  • Edo Modern Japanese Incense

    Traditional Japanese style incense.

This incense is a result of Nippon Kodo's 430 years of incense craftsmanship, and it shows. The packaging is based on the design and patterns of Japanese clothing. The incense has a pleasing aroma that rises and extends itself easily, yet with very little smoke.

Edo Modern has a slightly sweet and sour fruity fragrance with sharp cinnamon and refreshing vanilla.

    • Made with Japanese Binchō-tan charcoal.
    • Less smoke when burning.
    • Approx. 220 sticks (90g) / box

    Burn Time: Approx. 25 min.

    Dimensions: 2 7/8 X 6 1/8 X 1 1/4 inches / 73 X 155 X 32 mm

    Pervasive quality

Beautiful packaging, beautiful scent. I'm not sure the given description quite captures how I perceive the scent, which reminds me a bit of an Italian body powder I used to wear. To me it's a round, soft, pervasive, feminine scent—I burn it sometimes in my walk-in clothes closet, and there's an air of calm for a day or two when I open the door. I don't really get the bite of cinnamon or sourness, and for me it's more of an environmental scent than a ritual one, to give me peace in this world. I only recently started burning burning incense again—the pandemic and general disharmony—but this is the best quality I've obtained so far, and the claim of "less smoke" is no exaggeration. There's hardly any smoke at all, and very little aroma of burning. The scent catches me off guard in odd spaces for a couple of days after burning. Well worth the price with the number of sticks—and you will want to keep the fine box.
