The branches and berries of the juniper tree have been used for medicinal and spiritual purposes for thousands of years. Native Americans burn juniper berries to cleanse and purify the air. In ancient times juniper smoke was used for the ritual purification of temples and to aid clairvoyance. In central Europe it played a part in the spring-time cleansing and casting out of witchcraft. In Tibet, juniper is used daily as an offering by throwing branches onto a fire, amongst other uses including medicinal, spiritual, etc.
